Signs You Need A New Warehouse Floor

With so much going on in your busy warehouse it can be easy to overlook the most important element that supports your entire operation; the floor. So, the next time you’re in the warehouse take a moment to look down and assess whether it’s time for a new one using the following signs as your guide.

1) Your warehouse floor was installed before 1992
If your warehouse floor was installed before 1992 and the inception of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, then your business may not be compliant. If this is the case, you will need to replace the floor as soon as possible.

2) The floor has bumps and lumps
Warehouse floors have to withstand a lot of pressure from many different sources, including foot traffic, vehicles, forklifts, heavy equipment and shelving. All this stress and wear and tear will, overtime, cause the flooring to become uneven and therefore unsafe. So, to avoid dangerous wobbly shelves and tripping hazards, install a brand new warehouse floor.

3) The floor doesn’t meet your requirements
If the nature of your business has changed over time or you recently moved premises, you may find that the floor of your warehouse doesn’t meet your needs. For example, a highly polished floor may look great but doesn’t do much for increasing safety or you need safety flooring installed in areas prone to damp.

4) There are cracks in the surface of the floor
Old or poorly installed flooring will start to crack after being subjected to the demands of a busy warehouse. While it can be tempting to ignore these problems to avoid downtime, it won’t pay in the long run as the cracks will keep reappearing and you’ll be forced to spend time and money repairing patches.

5) Your flooring looks old and worn out
Many businesses use their warehouse to show their clients and customers their products and operations in the hope of impressing them and winning their business. However, you’ll be giving them the wrong impression if your warehouse floor is cracked, dirty and covered in tyre marks and smudges. A new floor will show your potential clients your operation is thriving and completely professional.
